Netherlands
2025 National Selection
Since 2008, our Faculty organizes the national (Dutch) selection for the International Client Consultation Competition (ICCC). The winning team represents the Netherlands at the international finals, which will this year be organized by the University of Glasgow, Faculty of Law, Scotland, on April 8-12, 2025.
The new policy of the Faculty Board regarding mooting competitions turns out to be very successful. Last year we already had 11 teams, and this year the dazzling number of 24! All teams were trained by coach Agustín Parise in six consecutive sessions, in which all aspects of client interviewing were thoroughly rehearsed. Juries composed of local attorneys at law, judges of the District Court and local counsellors (psychologists and health care workers) were responsible for the selection. The client roles were played by experienced actors.
The event took place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, and consisted of two rounds. This year competition topic is consumer contracts. The first case concerned a cancelled cruise, for which the consumer was made to pay nevertheless. In the second case a very nasty CEO of a security firm tried to terminate contracts of subscribers to avoid reimbursement of damages caused by a failing system.
All teams did extremely well. Amazing enough, we had two winning teams in the end, with exactly the same number of points. These were the teams of Ana Domínguez Rodríguez/Laura Wenczel (team B) and Alicia Navarrete/Katri Pokela (team R). Even after applying all tie breaking rules, the tie was still there, so unfortunately a coin had to decide which team will represent the Netherlands in Glasgow. This turned out to be team R. Congratulations and good luck at the internationals!
