​Mariia Tsypiashchuk

Mariia has been involved with the Competition since 2005, when she was a first-year law student at the National University of Ostroh Academy, Ukraine. In 2009, she competed in the International Rounds of the ICCC in Las Vegas, USA, after winning the National Ukrainian Rounds. Since 2011, she has served as the ICCC National Representative for Ukraine, and since 2015 she has organized and hosted the annual National Rounds of the Client Consultation Competition in Ukraine under the auspices of the Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine, which have run uninterrupted every year since. In 2024, she served as the lead organizer and representative from Ukraine in the co-hosting of the International Rounds of the BM ICCC in Lublin, officially co-hosted by the Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine together with Polish partner organizations. She has judged the Finals of the BM ICCC in Lublin (2024) and Zagreb (2026).

Mariia is an Attorney-at-Law. Since November 2025, she has served as Legal Adviser on Documenting and Investigating Crimes Against Cultural Heritage of Ukraine at the Culture and Identity Project of the Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine. She taught law at the National University of Ostroh Academy from 2009 to 2023, where she led the university's Pro Bono legal clinic, and has been a Board Member of the Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine since 2017, contributing to legal clinic development nationwide. In February 2024, she was a guest scholar at Berkeley Law through its partnership with Ostroh Academy. From August 2024 to April 2025, she served as Transitional Justice Lead at ABA ROLI Ukraine, and previously spent over ten years as a human rights lawyer with the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union in Rivne. She has extensive training experience in human rights, transitional justice, and related legal issues, having led numerous workshops and educational programs for lawyers, activists, and students across Ukraine. Throughout her career, she has cooperated with a range of Ukrainian human rights organizations, including the Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine, OPORA, Docudays (Ukraine War Archive), the Center for Civil Liberties (Euromaidan SOS), and the Human Rights House Chernihiv.
